Rounds 4 and 5

Rounds 4 and 5 continue the wait pool process that began with Round 3. If you submitted a Wait Pool Form by May 27, 2016, and did not receive an assignment to your wait pool school, your application stays active throughout Rounds 4 and 5 until you either:

  • Receive an assignment to your wait pool school, or

  • Notify the EPC that you would like to change your wait pool school or cancel your request.

You may join the wait pool at any point, but you may only receive one assignment through the wait pool process. If you receive an assignment in Round 3 or Round 4, then you may not submit another request for Round 5.

To participate in Round 4, you must submit your Wait Pool Form or update your existing request by July 22, 2016. The deadline for Round 5 is August 12, 2016.

Submit the Wait Pool Form in person at the Educational Placement Center (EPC) at 555 Franklin Street, Room 100. If you would like to change your existing wait pool request, you may do so in person or by sending an email to enrollinschool@sfusd.edu. Note that if you wait until the last minute, it is better to go in person to ensure that the request is received in time.

Wait pool numbers will be posted on the SFUSD website on June 14, July 16, and August 9, 2016. Checking these numbers may help you decide whether to keep your request active or switch your wait pool request to another school with a smaller wait pool.

With each round of the wait pool process, only families who receive new assignments are notified. Letters will be mailed on June 10, 2016 for Round 3, and on August 5, 2016 for Round 4. Round 5 notifications will occur between August 26th and September 2nd. For this round only, families will often be notified by phone before their letter arrives as the assignment is effective immediately because the school year has already started.

All five rounds of the enrollment process use the same tie-breaker and lottery system to assign available seats.

Available Schools Assignment Period

Starting on June 15, 2016, you may also participate in the Available Schools Assignment Period (ASAP). Students may be assigned immediately into any school with available seats and no wait pool requests. These seats are assigned on a first-come first-served basis. Availability may change frequently, so the information is not published and is only available in person at the EPC.

If you select a school assignment through the ASAP, this assignment replaces any school that you registered for in Rounds 1 or 2. You may still participate in the wait pool for Rounds 4 and 5 (but remember that you can only be assigned once in the wait pool). If you select a school through the ASAP, and receive a Round 4 or 5 wait pool assignment, the wait pool assignment will replace the ASAP school.

The No Transfer Period begins on September 5, 2016. After that point, your next chance to change your school assignment is the Spring Transfer Process. You would apply by November 18, 2016, to transfer to a new school for the spring semester starting in January.
